Budget as Part of Financial Planning - A Necessary Evil?
Budget your way to financial success! Sounds like dirty work. Well it is work, and may not be pleasant. BUT it is definitely essential to your financial well-being.
To be financially independent means controlling and tracking your expenditure is a MUST! I cannot emphasize that enough. You cannot and should not "leave it to chance".
We know by now that in order to successfully to climb up the financial ladder of financial success, we need a surplus. This is the surplus between our income and expenditures. So how do we accomplish that?
Unfortunately, to do that we first have to control expenditures. And how do we do that? That is, by adhering to a budget. Most people hate to hear this word, much less have the discipline to implement it. Well, both the good and bad news is that this is part of financial planning. Having a planned process demonstrates your commitment to achieving financial success.
It should not come a surprise to many. All legitimate businesses have business plans which include budgeting. They track their expenses and revenue. At the end of the year, they know whether they are in profit or loss.
So the question is, why should it be any different for individuals?
It should not. As a matter fact, for the average individual, it is even more important to know where their money go to.
You'd be surprised at many of the unnecessary expenses that can be saved, that otherwise would have gone unnoticed without tracking of expenditure.

Having said that, do note that as with all things, a budget has to be realistic. Be accountable for your spending habits and overcome spending problems which may be obstacles to your financial success.
